Description of the Role

Reporting to a member of the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for upholding our values of being safe, respectful and welcoming in addition to Safe Sport guidelines while providing support for the following programs:

● Safety boat coverage for existing members
● Technical instruction for existing members, participants and guests
● Group lessons for individuals new to rowing
● Lessons for individuals new to rowing or looking to improve their technique and skill
● Youth programming
● Community Programming for individuals from the Canucks Autistic Network, Big Sisters, Big
Brothers, Colour The Trails and others as we identify throughout the spring of 2024.
● Administrative tasks to support the programming above.

Requirements

● Experience being in leading or instructing in a group or team setting.
● Valid Pleasure Craft Operators Card or willingness to obtain one
● At least 2 years experience rowing, with competence in sculling
● Be able to communicate effectively with others, electronically and verbally
● Be organized, on time and reliable
● Have flexibility and positive attitude, and be able to cope with ambiguity

What we are looking for in an ideal candidate:

● Valid First Aid certificate
● Experience in coaching rowing and developing individuals with a wide range of skill, goals and abilities
● Certification as an RCA Learn To Row Coach, RCA Coach or RCA Competitive Coach.
● Experience scheduling and planning workouts
● Experience with operating outboard engines
● Experience with managing rowing equipment

Hiring Process

We will be hiring numerous coaches to support our programming, with most of that programming happening between May and August. We anticipate that two of those positions will involve approximately 30 hours per week and the others approximately 10 to 15 hours per week but individual accommodations may result in variation from that.
● FCRC pays $24-$26/hour plus 4% vacation indemnity.
● Candidates will be assessed on rowing knowledge, the ability to work with individuals and
groups
● Several of these positions will be eligible for funding support through the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. As such, several successful candidates will have to be eligible for funding under that program.
● You will be required to undergo a Criminal Records Check at FCRC expense for FCRC’s benefit.
● Candidates must be available for a workshop on the afternoon of March 24th, 2024
